Political Science

The Department of Political Science launched its journey on 1st of September 1995. It got an approval for introducing Political Science as Honours subject in the year of 2010.

The Department has produced innumerable students both Honours and General consistently through all the academic years. Many students of the Department have established themselves in various sectors, especially as accomplished teachers in various H.S. Schools and Degree Colleges, WBCS, SSC and they are keeping in touch with the Department as Alumni. Besides, the Department also organizes class wise seminar both national and international, debate and prepares students for Quiz and extempore competition and Group discussion, so that they can keep pace with the time. The students can express their views independently through their writing in the wall Magazine and teachers guide them properly in all the regards of their progress. Initially, there was only one faculty member Dr. Jayeeta Basu and some other part time teachers were appointed. After serving few years in the department, Dr. Jayeeta Basu joined as permanent faculty member. However, later she became the Principal of the college.

The Political Science Department is currently run by an efficient and skilled faculty member like Dr. Bibas Darjee Assistant Professor (JNU, New Delhi), one State Aided College Teacher Shri Bijay Biswas (Raiganj University) and one Guest Teacher Miss. Piyali Saha (Raiganj University). Above mentioned all, the faculty members are always ready to render all possible assistance and guidance to students within and outside the campus as and when required. Consequently, students get through the final examination with flying colours every year and go for further higher studies in different reputed universities in India.

There is a Central Library in College with separate reading room for both the faculties and students who can access the facilities through online as well as offline. The Political Science departments on the verge of providing own departmental self- service library like central library has its collection of some important books which are often provided to the students.

Importantly, college Wi-Fi Internet facilities is currently available for both Teachers and Students which helps in studying and get students connected with academic world. Besides, the seminars, workshops and special lectures are conducted regularly by the Department by inviting different professors, delegates, ministry, an eminent scholars and experts from different universities and institutions of India.

The Department with its available infrastructure is running smoothly with good team spirit among faculty members. Under any needs and circumstances, we leave no stone unturned to enrich the students in such a way so, that they can easily keep the pace with the advanced learning at an optimum level. Teacher-student relationship is another good- will and trust building option of the Department which is the most noticeable feature of college. We are easily accessible to students and they can unhesitatingly express their difficulties to us.
